Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument’s (GSENM) vast and austere landscape embraces a spectacular array of bold plateaus and multi-hued cliffs that run for distances, defying human perspective. “The Stair” is high country, 3,000 square miles of colorful sandstone cliffs soaring above Southern Utah’s narrow slot canyons, delicate washes, and seemingly endless slickrock.
The monument is a pristine backcountry that affords excellent solitude opportunities and an unconfined wilderness that will reward you with all-embracing creative image opportunities, vivid memories, and a yearning to return.
Located in the heart of Southern Utah this is truly one of the last locations on earth where you can go for days and not see another living soul. It is a landscape that truly inspires and fuels the creative voice.
The Grand Staircase National Monument Masterclass Photography Workshop is a 5-day full immersion program that teaches a capture to post-production workflow to create fine art landscape photography. We are not a photography tour provider; we are a visual arts, photography education program. Thus, you will spend significant time at each location with your instructor to develop a deep understanding of your subject and theme and learn to complete your vision in post-production.

Fitness Level
Moderate: You should be able to walk for one mile at a casual pace with moderate inclines on improved and unimproved trails with minor obstructions at a maximum altitude of 6500 feet above sea level.
Creative Locations
You will capture light, shadow, line, form, texture, and photograph: Devil’s Garden, Dance Hall Rock, Hole-in-the-Rock, Peek-a-Boo Slot Canyon, Calf Creek Falls, Death Hollow, Boulder, Grosvenor Arch, Hells Backbone, and more. This vast wilderness is sure to inspire and present you with countless photo opportunities.

National Park Photography Expeditions is a licensed education provider by the Bureau of Land Management.

What to Bring
Please see our page on how to prepare for your workshop. We will send you a detailed information document 60-90 days before your workshop. This document will include specifics of where and when to meet, gear, clothing recommendations, and more.

- All 4x4 and other ground transportation during the workshop.
- Photographic guidance and instruction from Adobe-qualified art photography instructors.
- 5-7 Field Locations for extensive capture assignments and landscape art classes.
- Approximately 9 hours of Adobe Creative Segmentation post-production training for expressive landscape art photography
- 3 hours of follow-up online post-production training after you arrive home
