First Horizons Workshops

First Horizons Workshops are great for the beginner as well as experienced photographers new to the art of landscape photography. The classes are small which allows us to provide hands-on training for each participant.

Emphasis

Camera Control for landscape captures, Landscape Composition, Image Evaluation, Fundamentals of Emotional Range and Vision beyond Documentation.

Locations

We teach First Horizons Workshops in selected National Parks, National Monuments, and within Bureau of Land Management locations. We are a Commerical Use Authorized Provider for National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management locations.

Master Class Workshops

Master Class workshops are for photographers who want to develop a unique visual voice— their own and are ready to learn advanced composition techniques, landscape post-production editing, image narration, and navigation. Photographers in these classes have intermediate to advanced camera skills and understand Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop fundamentals.

Master Classes teach end-to-end workflow and combine individual field capture sessions with hands on postproduction training, which allows our participants to create landscape art photography with a vision beyond documentation. These classes have limited space.

Follow-up Post-Production Tutoring

Each Master Class participant receives an additional 5 hours of online post-production tutoring upon his or her return to home.

Emphasis

Advanced Landscape Composition, Image Evaluation, Extending Emotional Range through post-production, Pre-Visualization Training, planning images for a Vision Beyond Documentation, personal project development.

Locations

We teach Master Class Workshops in unique, often little-seen locations within selected National Parks, and Bureau of Land Management sites. NPPE provides specialized vehicles to reach remote areas, and instructors are also trail certified to lead students into backcountry sites. We are a Commercial Use Authorized Provider for National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management locations.

Included

All Local Ground Transportation, Training Documentation, Field Meals, Discount Lodging Assistance, Post-Production classes, five hours of personal online tutoring with continued coaching at a discount, if requested.

Excluded

Lodging, Meals, and Transportation to and from the Workshop Basecamp.

Portfolio Master Class Workshops

Portfolio Master Classes are for photographers with advanced camera and intermediate to advanced post-production skills who wish to develop a personal project portfolio with a unique visual voice— their own.

Portfolio Master Classes teach end-to-end workflow and combine individual field capture sessions with advanced hands-on post-production training to create a personal portfolio of thematic work. Students receive pre-class theme training and perform primary image research before arriving in the field. Once on location students pursue a personal narration and or navigation project within a single or multiple locations and combine their field capture with advanced postproduction training in an onsite classroom.  These classes have limited space.

Prerequisite

Applicants for the Portfolio Master Class must have completed one or more Masterclass Workshops or provide a record of equivalent expertise to the NPPE Curriculum Director.

Follow-up Post-Production Tutoring

Each Portfolio Master Class participant receives an additional 15 hours of online post-production tutoring upon his or her return to home with access to low-cost portfolio printing services.

Emphasis

Advanced Theme Development utilizing concepts such as deadpan, minimalism, impressionism, abstraction, toning tools, interpretation, theme planning and folio editing.

Locations

We teach Landscape Master Class Workshops in unique, often little-seen locations within selected National Parks, and Bureau of Land Management sites. NPPE provides specialized vehicles to reach remote areas, and instructors are trail certified to teach in backcountry sites. We are a Commercial Use Authorized Provider for National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management locations.

All Local Ground Transportation, Training Documentation, Field Meals, Lodging, Post-Production classes, five hours of personal online tutoring, onsite print tests.
