We are often asked, “how do you choose your training dates?” It’s a common question, and several components determine our National Park Workshop schedules.
First, our goal is to teach, not tour, so our training schedules must calendar opportunities so that our participants can learn basic, as well as advanced, creative seeing and technical skills to master the art of landscape photography. We know our photographers need solitude and locations without crowds or significant interruptions. Thus we choose weekdays for core training because these are generally less crowded.
Second, we work with the National Park Service to identify parks that have unique, challenging, and not often seen photographic locations. Many of these sites are not accessible at certain times of the year, and thus we choose schedules that allow us to reach these unique landscape areas.
Third, we teach end-to-end workflow, so it is important to create schedule time for our students to download their work, perform post-production work, and learn landscape techniques that will expand their creative interpretations.
Fourth, we create cost-effective and creative workshops for our students. Thus, a significant part of scheduling a Masterclass requires coordinating comfortable lodging, meals, and support services for our students.
We love what we do, and our staff works hard to ensure that we create schedules well in advance to allow our students to be positioned in a National Park that allows you to grow while photographing what most others will never see.
