The Glacier National Park Master Class
The Glacier National Park Master Class is a 5-day full immersion, photography workshop that teaches an end-to-end workflow for the creation of landscape art. Students learn landscape capture techniques, creative composition approaches, atmospherics, visualization techniques and post-production methods that will allow them to express their subjective thoughts and feelings. The workshop is small, intimate, collegial, and the instruction hands-on, with intensive field capture instruction at specific locations. Photographers identify and then increase the emotional range of their work to create images that are a vision beyond documentation while gaining valuable insights into landscape thematics, mini-portfolio creation, environmental considerations, and visualization skills for the creation of landscape art photographs.
Upon their return home, students receive 5 hours of online post-production tutor training.
The Glacier National Park Landscape
Glacier National Park the Crown of the Continent, a land of sheer beauty and each photographic location is stunning from every angle and light flow. The Glacier Master Class Workshop will immerse you in over 1 million acres of towering, jagged peaks, cascading waterfalls, wild meadows, and sparkling waters. The raw splendor of glacial-carved terrain is unlike any other place on earth; and when you photograph that kind of vastness in Glacier National Park, it’s not something you’ll soon—or ever—forget. Our visual studies will capture the Glacier Landscape with dramatic dawns along the Going to the Sun Highway. You will create emphatic compositions and learn specific exposure concepts to lift your images from documentary to narration as you work with selected locations in the meadows of Saint Mary’s Valley and explore the extraordinary blue hour light over Swiftcurrent Lake and Grinnell Point. We will spend time juxtaposing plane and ground across waves of yellow glacier lilies in the snow with a mix of wildlife visitors; mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and the occasional grizzly bear.
When you leave for home, you will leave inspired, energized, and prepared to relive your Master Class as you complete your post-production tutor work.
Curriculum Assignments for Glacier National Park
While we teach many of the same processes and creative approaches in all parks, each Master Class has a unique theme assignment. Master Class photographers receive proprietary assignments for each location, explore documentary, narration and navigation art approaches, and create mini portfolios of their work.
